
SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST - SURGICAL SERVICES
Overview
The Senior Business Analyst for Surgical Services is a key strategic leader responsible for driving financial performance, operational efficiency, and resource optimization across the entire Surgical Services division. In partnership with the Surgical Services Director, executive leadership, and multi-disciplinary managers, the Senior Business Analyst provides strategic planning, financial stewardship, operational oversight, and enterprise level decision support. This position leads complex financial modeling, capital planning, cost containment initiatives, and system wide resource management to ensure sustainable growth and high value care delivery This role demonstrates exceptional customer service and leadership consistent with Covenants Mission, Vision, and Values, and supports the organization commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Responsibilities
Strategic & Financial Leadership
Serves as the primary financial strategist for Surgical Services, overseeing multimillion dollar operating and capital budgets across all perioperative cost centers.
Leads long range financial planning, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support service line growth, margin improvement, and organizational strategic priorities.
Provides executive level financial reporting, variance analysis, and performance dashboards to the Director, Finance, and senior leadership.
Develops and implements financial policies, internal controls, and governance processes to ensure fiscal accountability and regulatory compliance.
Oversees all revenue cycle functions for Surgical Services, including charge capture, pricing strategy, reimbursement optimization, and billing accuracy.
Operational & Resource Management
Directs enterprise level materials management strategy for Surgical Services, including supply chain optimization, inventory control, and cost reduction initiatives.
Leads the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new products, equipment, and technology in collaboration with Value Analysis, Supply Chain, and clinical leadership.
Serves as the executive gatekeeper for vendor access, contract compliance, and intraoperative vendor standards.
Oversees capital planning, including prioritization, business case development, ROI analysis, and lifecycle management of surgical equipment and technology.
Ensures timely contract maintenance, vendor performance evaluation, and negotiation of pricing and service terms.
Data Analytics & Decision Support
Conducts advanced financial and operational analytics, including surgeon utilization, case costing, implant spend, productivity metrics, and market competitiveness.
Developing predictive models to monitor revenue trends, volume shifts, and cost drivers, providing actionable insights to leadership.
Leads benchmarking initiatives comparing internal performance to national standards, peer institutions, and competitive markets
Leadership, Collaboration & Governance
Serves as a senior advisor to the Surgical Services Director, providing high level recommendations on financial strategy, operational improvements, and resource allocation.
Facilitates cross functional collaboration with perioperative leadership, Supply Chain, Finance, Revenue Cycle, and physician partners.
Leads multidisciplinary workgroups and system wide initiatives focused on cost containment, quality improvement, and operational excellence.
Provides education and mentorship to managers and staff on financial literacy, cost awareness, and resource stewardship.
Compliance, Quality & Continuous Improvement
Ensures compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards related to financial operations and supply management.
Leads continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve patient experience.
Oversees annual wall to wall inventory and ensures accuracy of all supply, equipment, and capital asset records.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in business, healthcare management, finance, or equivalent required; Masters degree preferred.
Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in financial management, business operations, or surgical services administration in healthcare environment required.
Demonstrated experience leading complex budgets, capital planning, and cross functional operational initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience in Surgical Services or perioperative operations preferred.
Advanced financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting expertise.
Strong understanding of surgical services operations, supply chain, and revenue cycle processes.
Exceptional communication, presentation, and executive level influencing skills.
Ability to lead large scale projects, manage competing priorities, and drive organizational change.
High proficiency in Microsoft Office, financial systems, and data analytics tools.
Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive information.
