
Senior Business Development Manager – Asset-Based Lending
About the Position
Milestone Bank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Asset‑Based Lending (ABL) Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for originating, structuring, and developing relationships that generate both conventional and government‑guaranteed ABL working‑capital financing opportunities. This role focuses on expanding the Bank’s ABL platform through proactive business development, relationship management, and referral‑source cultivation. The ABL BDO leads the front end of the lending process, including identifying prospects, collecting and analyzing financial and collateral information, and coordinating with the ABL Credit Team to structure transactions and prepare complete and accurate credit packages for approval.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Builds, develops and maintains profitable ABL relationships with new and existing customers, referral sources and strategic partners.
- Proactively generate new ABL lending opportunities through cold calling, networking, existing relationships, and targeted market outreach.
- Establish and grow new banking relationships to expand the Bank’s ABL lending presence and market share.
- Lead preliminary deal structuring discussions and assist in negotiating loan terms in collaboration with internal partners.
- Collects and review borrower financial statements, collateral data and supporting documentation.
- Structure ABL loan proposals, complete initial analysis and prepares comprehensive credit packages to ensure complete loan file for credit submission.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of the Bank’s lending policies, credit standards, and applicable procedures.
- Ensures all lending activities comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, agency guidelines and internal policies.
- Is responsible for generating $20MM in closed loan volume per full calendar year, with typical transaction sizes ranging from $1 million to $7 million
- Must be willing to travel up to 25%, including, but not limited to, visiting current and prospective customers, attending trade shows and conferences, and in‑office attendance as required by management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Demonstrates success in relationship management and business development within B2B or financial services environments.
- Advanced knowledge of credit administration, underwriting, and lending policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex financial and collateral structures.
- Demonstrated understanding of complex financial accounting, financial statement analysis, and cash-flow evaluation.
- High level of analytical skill to assess and evaluate loan risk, credit limitations and valuations, and have a thorough understanding of underwriting and financial data.
- Advanced knowledge of ABL structuring, documentation, and market dynamics.
- Working knowledge of SBA and other government-guaranteed lending programs is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with internal teams and external shareholders in managing customer relationships.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, both in person and through virtual communication.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and related business software.
- Ability to work within multiple CRM platforms and AI-enabled tools.
- Effective contributor within a remote or hybrid team environment; travel up to 25% is required and may exceed this level based on business needs.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field preferred or equivalent coursework and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, loan origination, or sales within ABL, working capital-focused C&I lending, or factoring.
- Prior SBA lending experience preferred, including 7(a), CAPLines, and Export Working Capital programs.
- Prior lender-finance experience preferred.
- General knowledge of SBA Loan program requirements preferred.
