Senior Product Designer

New York, New York, United StatesOnsiteFull TimeSenior$130,000–$160,000 /yrPosted todayVisa sponsorship available

Major League Baseball is looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team to help shape the future vision of baseball and deliver engaging fan experiences across every touch point of the fan journey. From going to a game, experiencing it live or through our digital products, we touch it all. Although we all focus on specific things, the boundaries between teams are permeable, so you can certainly expect to collaborate with other Designers on a broad set of challenges that don't fall neatly into the Product Design category.

The Product Design team at MLB works across the entire fan journey - from primary research with the fans and clubs, in-park experiences, websites, apps, games, streaming and interactive products. Paying attention to the trends shaping sports and media, while constantly raising the bar on entertainment and delight for every aspect of the MLB experience. We do this through the practice of a fan focused approach to Product Design, investing in design systems and content tooling, UX writing, and design research.

Major League Baseball is dedicated to reimagining the fan experience. We believe the opportunity ahead of us requires skills in understanding fans, thoughtful consideration of every aspect of the experience, and cranking up delight for every touchpoint—in short, design. That's where you come in.

Our mission is simple: To change the way fans interact with, enjoy, and watch the game of baseball.

## Responsibilities

  • This role will focus mainly on supporting the Baseball Data and the Gameday experiences. The numbers and data are an important part of what makes baseball unique to our fans. This is an exciting opportunity to truly connect and help shape the way the game is seen and interpreted
  • Work to reimagine how scores, stats, and data are visualized to our millions of fans
  • Partner with other Designers and create new features and products focused on the live game experience
  • Expand focus across the suite of MLB products to support business initiatives but more importantly find new and creative ways to delight the fan
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, and Researchers to define problems, shape strategy, and ship user-facing solutions that reimagine how fans will interact with baseball
  • Conduct your own research and collaborate with others to support foundational and iterative solutions for your designs
  • Partner with the design systems team to improve and expand the Basepath product design system
  • Actively participate in design reviews and share your work regularly with peers and product leadership
  • Lead and mentor other Designers on the team. We are a lean group that overlaps frequently so strong collaboration and communication is important

Qualifications

  • 5+ experience designing consumer, gaming, or streaming media products
  • 5+ years in digital Product Design or User Experience Design
  • Have a good understanding of baseball and the numbers and insights behind the game
  • Experience working with large data sets and visualizations
  • Can go from ideation to delivery with the help of a solid design system. You may have depth in UX research, or visual design, but are skilled enough to do both
  • Are a fan and detail obsessed. You have great ideas but more importantly push through to make sure they are realized by ensuring all the details are thought through
  • Crave feedback to make your work better. Have demonstrated experience working with insights, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Are good at describing the "why" and showing work to a varied set of stakeholders
  • Have a "show, don't tell"approach. Your first instinct is to prototype/visualize things to help push the work forward
  • Are a systems thinker - you understand how your work connects into the larger digital ecosystem
  • Have a team first mentality - looking to learn from and inspire others
  • Strong portfolio of shipped products that show data and user-centric decision making and strategy
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of baseball statistics and rules is a plus
