About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our International Card Tech team at Capital One Canada. This senior technical role, equivalent to a senior manager, does not involve direct reports but requires advanced expertise in enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in orchestrating the development of scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that support our international card services. You will be responsible for evaluating new technologies, designing high-level architectures, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions align with business objectives and architectural standards.
You will engage with stakeholders at various levels to promote best practices, oversee the creation of technical documentation such as High-Level Designs (HLD) and Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), and participate in governance forums like the Architectural Review Board. Your expertise will help shape the future of our customer management capabilities, transitioning from an account-centric to a customer-centric decision-making model, thereby enhancing our service offerings and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture, with at least 2 years of experience designing solutions in a public cloud environment such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required; a master's degree and relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Solutions Architect) are preferred. Candidates should have extensive experience working within large, complex, and regulated environments, demonstrating the ability to architect scalable, decoupled systems that meet stringent compliance standards.
Additional qualifications include strong communication skills capable of engaging stakeholders across organizational levels, mentoring experience in architectural best practices, and a proven track record of driving initiatives that align technology with business strategies. Certifications in cloud platforms and architectural frameworks will be considered advantageous.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement architectural solutions that support Capital One Canada's strategic goals, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and security protocols.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, aligning them with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the development and review of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to ensure clarity and consistency in solution design.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels to promote innovative technology strategies that deliver tangible business value.
  • Mentor software engineers and architects, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and architectural excellence.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions that enhance system performance and security.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of project delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise standards.
