What is the opportunity?
Are you interested in the opportunity to work as a
Data Engineering Student
at RBC? By applying for this job, you will be considered for a role in Group Risk Management where you will contribute to building a next generation wholesale credit risk data and analytics platform in support of the portfolio insight and risk oversight functions in commercial & wholesale credit risk, with focus on AI driven data solutions and technology infrastructure buildout.
What will you do?
- Build data solutions by utilizing AI methods and tools
- Build out the wholesale credit risk platform infrastructure utilizing modern open-source computing technologies
- Ensure project activities are accomplished within approved scope and time frames
- Utilize the latest technologies available, designing and building data solutions that meet business needs
- Be an active contributor to not only your individual team, but to the broader Portfolio Insight and Risk Oversight team within Commercial & Wholesale Credit Risk
- Constantly seek better ways of doing things, new tools, new technologies, new processes
- Work on transformational projects that deliver new value
- Work as part of an agile team responsible for end-to-end delivery of business needs
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning
- Leadership acumen and a passion to apply it in a dynamic business environment
- Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
- Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
- Experience or understanding of Linux, HDFS, HIVE, Jupyter, Airflow, GitHub
- Programming skills in Python, Pandas, PyArrow, SQL
- Ability to extract, transform, and load data, familiarity with JSON
- Strong MS Office skills, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
Nice-to-have
- Experience programming with GitHub Copilot
- Experience context engineering for Large Language Models
- Relational database concepts and design experience
- Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge

This posting is for a 4-months Fall 2026 Student placement with a start date of September 2026, and end date of December 2026. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:
- Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of December 2026 ; or
- If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in December 2026), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
