So what are we looking for in new team members? At Scribd, Inc., we hire for “GRIT.” Traditionally defined as the intersection of passion and perseverance toward long-term goals, GRIT reflects the mindset we expect from every employee. For us, it also serves as a practical framework for how we work: setting and achieving Goals, delivering Results within your role, contributing Innovative ideas and solutions, and strengthening the broader Team through collaboration and attitude.
This posting reflects an approved, open position within the organization.
About The Team
The Developer Tooling team empowers Scribd engineers across the entire software development lifecycle. We build and evolve the tools, frameworks, and platforms that power engineering workflows — from modernizing infrastructure and optimizing build and deployment processes to pioneering agentic engineering capabilities that let AI agents collaborate alongside our developers. Our work delivers broad, measurable impact by boosting productivity and elevating the developer experience company-wide.
About The Role
This is a foundational Staff-level hire that will shape how Scribd builds software in an AI-first world.
You'll set the technical direction for our agentic engineering platform, defining how hundreds of engineers work alongside coding agents to write, review, and ship code across our stack. You'll evolve our development environment so AI agents become true collaborators alongside humans. You'll partner with senior leaders to define our agentic engineering strategy. And you'll raise the technical bar well beyond your immediate team.
About You
You have a passion for improving developer experience and productivity, and you're energized by removing friction from engineering workflows. You take a thoughtful approach to platform engineering that balances stability, speed, and simplicity. You're all-in on AI changing how software gets built, and you've already been applying it to your own work.
What You Will Do
- Set the technical direction for AI-assisted and agentic development at Scribd. Define the architecture, patterns, and guardrails that let engineers and coding agents collaborate safely and effectively across our codebase, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure.
- Design and evolve the architecture of Scribd's internal tools, libraries, components, and utilities, setting standards that engineers across the organization rely on daily
- Drive company-wide initiatives in partnership with engineering leadership. Scope ambiguous, cross-org problems and own them end-to-end.
- Be a force multiplier. Mentor senior and staff engineers, serve as an internal expert and coach to teams adopting AI in their workflows, and evangelize new capabilities across the engineering org.
We're looking for
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant time spent in developer experience, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering
- Hands-on experience applying AI to real software development problems. You've shipped, measured, or meaningfully contributed to AI-assisted or agentic developer tooling in production, and you stay current as the landscape evolves.
- Deep familiarity with AWS and Terraform in production environments at meaningful scale
- Experience operating containerized workloads on Kubernetes in production
- Demonstrated Staff-level impact: influencing technical direction well beyond your immediate team, mentoring senior engineers, translating complex technical ideas into clear narratives, and raising the engineering bar for the organizations you've been part of
- Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Go (Golang), Ruby, TypeScript, or Python
