We are now launching a confidential AI Payments initiative to build the world’s first intelligent, agentic payment ecosystem. We are looking for a Staff-level engineer to bridge the gap between our high-performance core systems and the future of AI-driven finance.

The Mission

As a Founding Member of our AI Payments team, you will be responsible for building and scaling the core backend systems that power our global platform while leading the technical direction of our new AI initiatives. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, driving ambiguous projects from concept to crisp execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Architectural Leadership: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, high-concurrency Java services and APIs that serve as the backbone of our AI engine.
• AI Integration: Lead the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic workflows into core payment paths to automate complex financial tasks.
• Scalable Engineering: Translate complex product requirements into scalable architecture, clear milestones, and robust delivery plans.
• System Reliability: Own the reliability of the platform by debugging complex issues, improving observability, and driving incident follow-ups.
• Technical Standards: Set the bar for engineering excellence through rigorous code reviews, documentation, and system design guidance.
• Cross-Functional Impact: Lead technical planning and execution for cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Design, and Operations.
• Mentorship: Level up the team’s execution quality and velocity by mentoring other engineers.

Qualifications

- Experience
: 5+ years of professional experience in Java development with a track record of building production-grade systems.
- Java Mastery
: Strong expertise in Java (generics, lambda expressions) and deep knowledge of multi-threading and concurrent programming.
- Frameworks
: Expertise in the Spring ecosystem, specifically Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and Spring WebFlux.
- Data & Performance
: Expert knowledge of SQL (MySQL) and proficiency in Redis for high-performance use cases.
- Cloud & Infrastructure
: In-depth understanding of AWS services and deep knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
- AI Fluency
- A strong foundation in Large Language Models (LLMs), including a deep understanding of Transformer architectures, fine-tuning strategies, and attention mechanisms.
- Demonstrated expertise in building autonomous AI Agents within the Claude/Anthropic ecosystem, specifically leveraging Claude’s Extended Thinking capabilities and the Model Context Protocol (MCP) for secure data integration.
- Proven track record of implementing Prompt Engineering and Constitutional AI guardrails to meet the strict demands of financial accuracy, regulatory compliance (e.g., AML/KYC), and model explainability.
- Soft Skills
: Proven ability to influence without authority, align stakeholders, and drive projects end-to-end.

• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of highly complex projects and drive them to completion.
• Experience in a startup environment or a high-pressure, fast-paced workplace.
• Experience building financial systems, payment gateways, or high-frequency trading platforms.
