About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Backend Engineer specializing in Golang to join our team and support the ongoing development and scaling of our Datto Endpoint Backup platform. This pivotal role involves designing, building, and maintaining robust backend systems capable of handling large data volumes with high reliability and security. As a key contributor, you will take ownership of critical services, influence architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, SRE, and Infrastructure to deliver high-performance solutions. Your expertise will directly impact the scalability, stability, and efficiency of our platform, ensuring we meet the evolving needs of our customers and business objectives.
Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience in a production environment
• 3+ years of hands-on experience writing production code in Golang
• Proven experience building and operating distributed microservices-based systems in production
• Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in a production setting
• Strong knowledge of API development and maintenance using REST or gRPC
• Experience with system monitoring, logging, metrics, and tracing for observability
• Familiarity with Linux environments and command-line tools
• Understanding of distributed data storage systems and network protocols

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain reliable, scalable backend services capable of high throughput
• Own features and services from initial design through deployment, including performance tuning and support
• Participate in architecture discussions related to distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Collaborate with Product, SRE, and Infrastructure teams to implement new features and optimize system performance
• Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure code quality and consistency across the team
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving production issues, performing root cause analysis
• Mentor junior engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
