The Role: Network Security Engineer II
As a Network Security Engineer II, you will support the design, implementation, and operation of network security solutions across Switch infrastructure. This role focuses on building and maintaining secure, reliable network environments while developing deeper technical expertise.
You will work on defined projects and operational tasks, contributing to security improvements and supporting existing systems. Your work helps maintain consistent security controls and supports the stability of network operations.
What You’ll Do

• Support the implementation and maintenance of network security solutions
• Configure and manage firewall policies and related security controls
• Assist with network segmentation efforts, including macro and micro segmentation
• Monitor and respond to security events using established tools and processes
• Identify vulnerabilities and support remediation efforts
• Troubleshoot network and security issues with guidance from senior engineers
• Contribute to documentation for network configurations, processes, and standards
• Support onboarding and integration of new security tools and technologies
• Assist with automation tasks using scripts and existing frameworks
• Participate in project work with defined scope and clear deliverables
• Collaborate with network, security, and operations teams to resolve issues
• Participate in an on-call rotation

What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in network engineering or network security
• Foundational knowledge of network security concepts and practices
• Experience working with firewall technologies (Palo Alto preferred)
• Understanding of network segmentation principles
• Basic knowledge of routing and switching fundamentals
• Experience reviewing logs, alerts, or packet captures
• Familiarity with VPNs and secure remote access concepts
• Exposure to Linux environments
• Basic scripting or automation experience (Python or similar)
• Ability to document work clearly and accurately

Preferred Qualifications

• CCNA or progress toward CCNP or equivalent knowledge
• Exposure to Cisco ISE or 802.1X
• Experience with IPS or threat detection tools
• Familiarity with APIs or system integrations
• Exposure to version control systems
• Experience working in data center or large-scale network environments
