Field Engineer
Mechanical Field Service & Operations Engineer – Industrial Turbomachinery
Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced mechanical engineer to support the field service, operation, and maintenance of industrial gas turbine equipment. This position combines hands-on site work with technical advisory responsibilities, ensuring reliable performance and efficient operation of installed assets.
This is a field-based role with significant travel requirements, primarily across the United States, along with occasional international assignments (~10%). The position is open to candidates at varying levels of experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Execution & Maintenance:
- Carry out installation, commissioning, and scheduled maintenance activities on gas turbine systems and associated equipment
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults on-site, implementing corrective actions to restore performance
- Lead or support outage, repair, and overhaul activities in line with engineering standards and safety procedures
Operational Support:
- Monitor equipment performance and provide recommendations to enhance reliability and efficiency
- Collaborate with operations teams to establish and refine maintenance strategies
- Deliver technical guidance to site personnel during live operations and unplanned events
Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of field activities, inspections, and corrective actions
- Produce clear technical reports outlining findings, root cause analysis, and improvement recommendations
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and customers regarding equipment condition and performance
Client Support & Knowledge Transfer:
- Provide on-site coaching and training for customer teams on operation and maintenance practices
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of procedures and technical documentation
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all applicable safety standards and operational procedures while on site
- Participate in risk assessments, safety reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Background in servicing or supporting industrial gas turbines or similar rotating equipment
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities in a mechanical environment
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and engineering documentation
- Effective communication skills with the ability to engage directly with customers in the field
Desirable Experience:
- Exposure to turbine control systems, instrumentation, or auxiliary systems
- Familiarity with reliability-focused maintenance approaches (e.g., predictive or condition-based maintenance)
- Relevant industry certifications or field service credentials
