The Injection Molding Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining injection molding processes to ensure efficient production of high-quality plastic components. This role focuses on process improvement, troubleshooting, tooling validation, and supporting production teams to meet safety, quality, and productivity goals. This is a hands-on position. Will also be responsible for window frame welding and thermoforming machines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, document, and optimize injection molding processes for new and existing products.
- Perform mold trials, process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and capability studies.
- Troubleshoot molding defects such as short shots, flash, sink, warpage, and burn marks.
- Establish and maintain standard process parameters and work instructions.
- Collaborate with tooling engineers on mold design, modifications, and maintenance.
- Analyze production data to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and increase efficiency.
- Support new product launches and engineering changes.
- Work closely with quality teams to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Train technicians and operators on proper process setup and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Plastics, Manufacturing, or related field) preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Experience: 3+ years of experience in injection molding or plastics manufacturing. Hands-on experience with molding machines, robotics, and auxiliary equipment. Experience with scientific molding principles preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of thermoplastics and material behavior
- Expertise in process optimization and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with mold design and tooling concepts
- Experience with process validation and documentation
- Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving techniques
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- RJG Scientific Molding Certification or similar
- Experience with automation systems and robotics
- Knowledge of CAD software and mold flow analysis
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
- PLC and Robot programming Experience
Work Environment:
Manufacturing/production floor environment. Exposure to high temperatures, noise, and moving machinery. May require occasional lifting and extended periods of standing. This position will require working on the floor running machines, developing processes and supporting Maintenance repairs including troubleshooting issues.
