Role summary

Aerospace Applications North America, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer / Full Stack Developer to join the NASA Johnson Space Center Rapid Prototyping Lab. This role involves developing and testing prototypes for Artemis vehicles, including the Orion spacecraft. Responsibilities include programming solutions, designing and analyzing programming systems, implementing maintainable software, and investigating new technologies. The position requires a BS degree in a relevant field, one year of experience in higher-level programming languages (C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, etc.) within a Windows environment, and knowledge of database design (SQL) and software/hardware integration. The role is full-time, onsite, with a salary range of $70,000-$95,000 per year.

Job Description

The potential employee will:

  • Work within the NASA Johnson Space Center Rapid Prototyping Lab developing displays and controls protypes for Artemis vehicles including the Orion spacecraft
  • Work with the RPL team to test and verify the contractor build cockpit meets the design and intent of the NASA prototypes
  • Program and develop solutions to technical problems
  • Design and analyze programming systems, problem-oriented languages, management systems, scientific systems, and other related areas
  • Recommend general methods of investigation for research and development
  • Prepare technical and managerial reports, including feasibility and desirability of extensions, as well as modifications to existing software procedures
  • Make decisions, initiate actions, and implement solutions regarding difficult software problems
  • Develop specifications based on a known set of software component requirements, hardware capabilities/limitation, and operating system environment
  • Implement solutions that support multiple languages, consider resource limitations, and emphasize maintainability
  • Develop and modify existing software
  • Build and deliver major releases
  • Investigate new technologies
  • Work with their peers and other departments concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems
  • Coordinate with their group lead to provide input and generate plans, status reports, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Qualifications

The applicant must possess:

  • A BS degree in a computer science, system science, or engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • One (1) year of related experience or relevant course work. Progressive relevant training and/or certification may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement
  • Work or course experience in a higher level programming language such as C#, C, C++, XML, .NET Implementations, JavaScript, JQuery, or Java in a Windows environment
  • A knowledge of Database Design and Data Structures (SLQ)
  • Experience in software/hardware integration and life cycle testing
  • Knowledge of Agile Methodology
  • MS Office skills

Essential Requirements

Applicant must be aware that:

  • Candidate must be able to satisfy all client(NASA)-imposed eligibility requirements, including those related to work authorization and access to government systems
  • May be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods of time
  • Work may require lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds
  • They must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities with reasonable accommodation
  • Will need access to standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Work will require regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule
  • This position might require the applicant to work outside a normal schedule. The employee must be able to adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required
  • They must be able to work in a team atmosphere
  • They must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
