Afternoon is seeking a Founding Engineer to join their early-stage startup. This highly leveraged role involves working directly with founders to build an integrated back-office product covering state compliance, sales tax, bookkeeping, and corporate income taxes. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience with a strong track record of execution and collaboration. High ownership and agency are crucial as you'll drive significant parts of the product roadmap. Experience in FinTech, applied AI (LLMs, agentic workflows), TypeScript, React, and PostgreSQL are considered advantageous.
We are looking for a founding engineer, an extremely leveraged role. You’ll work directly with founders to build a highly integrated back-office product spanning state compliance, sales tax, bookkeeping and corporate income taxes.
### What will you need to bring
* **3+ years** of professional experience as a full-stack software engineer with a proven track record of execution. You've built outstanding products and collaborated closely within engineering teams.
* **High ownership and agency.** We’re a lean startup, and you'll be expected to care deeply about the product and fully drive significant parts of the roadmap.
### Nice to have:
* Fintech experience
* Practical experience with applied AI (e.g., working with LLMs and agentic workflows)
* Familiarity with our technology stack: TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL
