About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our International Card Tech team in Toronto, Canada. This is a senior technical leadership role designed for professionals who excel in enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. The successful candidate will operate at a senior manager level, orchestrating complex technical solutions without direct reports but leading by influence and expertise. Your primary responsibility will be to design scalable, secure, and innovative technology architectures that support our international card services, particularly focusing on customer management capabilities and transitioning from an account-centric to a customer-centric model. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, product managers, and other technical leaders, to ensure solutions align with strategic objectives and adhere to architectural standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of educational background, extensive experience, and relevant certifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Software Engineering and Systems Architecture or Technology Solution Design.
  • At least 2 years of experience designing solutions architectures within public cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Professional certifications in TOGAF, AWS (Solution Architect-Associate, Cloud Practitioner), or similar frameworks are highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of leading complex, large-scale projects in regulated environments, including financial services or healthcare.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, from technical teams to executive leadership.
  • Experience mentoring engineering teams and promoting best practices in architecture and development.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop architectural solutions that support Capital One Canada's strategic business objectives while complying with industry standards and security protocols.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive catalogs of technical and business capabilities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to facilitate clarity and consistency across projects.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring all solutions meet internal and external compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels to promote innovative technology strategies that deliver tangible business value.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams on architectural best practices, fostering continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend solutions that enhance system scalability, security, and performance.
  • Work closely with business partners to translate requirements into technical solutions, ensuring seamless integration and deployment.
