About The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic Technology team. This role is pivotal in supporting and advancing BMO’s core cloud initiatives, with a specific focus on Azure cloud services. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the bank’s multi-year cloud technology roadmap, driving innovation, and facilitating the adoption of Azure technologies across the organization. Collaborating closely with Enterprise Architecture and various business technology stakeholders, the Senior Azure Cloud Engineer will connect subject matter experts with strategic business, information, domain, and solution architecture to develop and implement scalable, secure, and efficient cloud solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess a broad skill set that includes designing, documenting, and implementing cloud and application patterns, reviewing these patterns with stakeholders, and advising business technology teams on best practices. This role offers the opportunity to work with the latest tools and technologies in a fast-paced environment, fostering a DevOps mindset and promoting Infrastructure-as-Code and Infrastructure-as-a-Service principles. As a key contributor to BMO’s cloud transformation, the engineer will inspire teams, inject new knowledge, and accelerate the organization’s cloud journey.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have over 3 years of experience as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, complemented by at least 5 years of relevant industry experience and a post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A strong understanding of Azure services and extensive hands-on experience building cloud solutions are essential. Candidates should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of IT domains such as networking, security, infrastructure, solutions architecture, operating systems (Linux/Windows), and identity and access management.
Proficiency in cloud provisioning, administration, and disaster recovery strategies, along with performance monitoring at scale, is required. Experience creating CI/CD pipelines using tools like Azure DevOps, Github Actions, and scripting languages such as Python, Node.js, PowerShell, and Shell Scripting is highly valued. Familiarity with Azure services including Azure Storage, Key Vault, VMs/VMSS, Container Apps, Azure SQL, CosmosDB, and Azure Functions is necessary. Strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders are critical for success in this role.
Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions utilizing Azure IaaS, PaaS, and higher-level services.
  • Create and integrate BMO Cloud Products, core, and shared services to support enterprise needs.
  • Develop and standardize patterns for automated provisioning, management, scalability, and security of cloud resources.
  • Ensure all cloud solutions adhere to internal security, compliance, and governance standards.
  • Plan and design enterprise-scale cloud environments, including application dependencies, data flow, network connectivity, and cloud hosting architecture.
  • Develop and maintain architectural templates and operational documentation to support ongoing cloud operations.
