About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer specializing in Android development to join our dynamic Capital One Travel team. This is a senior individual contributor position, equivalent to a managerial level, with no direct reports. The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced hands-on expertise in software development, technical design, and architecture, playing a pivotal role in shaping our mobile platform. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative travel booking experiences that engage and delight our customers. Your work will involve leveraging the latest technologies such as Kotlin, reactive programming, and modern architectural principles to deliver scalable, high-performance mobile applications.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. You should have a minimum of six years of experience developing native Android applications, with a strong background in application and data architecture. Proficiency in Kotlin is essential, with at least four years of hands-on experience. Additionally, experience mentoring junior or mid-level developers and guiding technical stakeholders is highly valued. A thorough understanding of software development lifecycle, best practices, and modern design patterns is required to excel in this role.
Responsibilities

• Spearhead the development of innovative Android features, utilizing Kotlin, reactive programming, and modern UI frameworks such as SwiftUI where applicable, to meet the strategic objectives of Capital One Travel.
• Collaborate with fellow software engineers, UX/UI designers, product owners, and analysts to deliver engaging and high-quality customer experiences that are both purposeful and intuitive.
• Participate actively in all agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring timely delivery of high-standard features.
• Advocate for the mobile platform by engaging with internal and external developer communities, sharing best practices, and contributing to open-source initiatives.
• Maintain a continuous learning mindset by staying current with emerging technologies, libraries, and frameworks related to mobile development, including Kotlin, third-party libraries, and cloud integration.
• Influence technical discussions, provide constructive feedback, and incorporate input from team members to enhance product quality and development processes.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers, fostering a culture of growth and technical excellence within the team.
• Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams across Android, iOS, APIs, and Web to ensure seamless integration and delivery of platform components.
• Lead the ownership and delivery of major platform components, working closely with senior engineers and architects to meet project milestones.
• Share best practices regularly, identify technical challenges early, and work collaboratively to develop innovative solutions that enhance performance and reliability.
• Review code submissions, ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and language idioms, particularly in Swift and Kotlin.
