About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our innovative team at Capital One Software Studio. This senior technical position (equivalent to senior manager level) is pivotal in designing and implementing enterprise solutions that align with our strategic objectives. While this role does not involve direct reports, it requires a deep expertise in enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. Your primary responsibilities will include evaluating new technologies, creating scalable and secure architecture designs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions meet both business and security standards. You will work closely with business partners to develop high-level designs and influence technology strategies that drive innovation and operational excellence. Your contributions will help shape the future of our technology landscape and ensure our solutions deliver maximum value to our customers and stakeholders.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience designing solutions architectures within public cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in a relevant discipline, certifications in TOGAF, AWS, or similar frameworks, and extensive experience in large, complex organizations. Additional valuable skills include a strong background in regulated environments (HIPAA, PCI, Privacy), proficiency in engaging with executive stakeholders, mentoring capabilities, and certifications like AWS Solution Architect-Associate or Cloud Practitioner. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences are essential.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement architectural solutions that align with Capital One Canada's strategic goals and adhere to our architectural standards and frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to ensure consistency and clarity across projects.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders at all organizational levels to promote effective technology strategies that enhance business value and foster innovation.
  • Mentor and guide teams in adopting best practices for architecture and system design, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions that improve system scalability, security, and performance.
  • Ensure all solutions are compliant with security standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
