About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our innovative team at Capital One Software Studio. This senior technical position is equivalent to a senior manager level, focusing on enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. The role does not involve direct reports but requires a deep technical expertise to lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and efficient technology solutions aligned with our strategic objectives. You will review ongoing solution designs, evaluate new technologies, and oversee high-level architectural strategies. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and business partners, you will ensure that our solutions adhere to architectural standards and security protocols while fostering innovation and best practices across the organization.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture. At least 2 years of experience in creating solutions architectures within public cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is required. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, certifications in TOGAF, AWS, or similar frameworks, and extensive experience in large, complex organizations. Candidates should have a proven track record of designing scalable, decoupled systems in regulated environments, along with excellent communication skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively. Certifications like AWS Solution Architect-Associate or Cloud Practitioner are highly desirable.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement architectural solutions that align with Capital One Canada's business goals and architectural standards.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities to ensure strategic alignment.
  • Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to support solution development.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across all levels to promote technology strategies that enhance business value and foster innovation.
  • Mentor and guide teams in adopting best practices in architecture, design, and continuous improvement initiatives.
