About The Role
The Senior Staff Software Engineer at Capital One Canada is a pivotal technical leadership position, equivalent to a senior manager level. This role does not include direct reports but requires a high level of technical expertise in enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. As a key contributor, you will be responsible for designing scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions that align with our strategic business objectives. You will review ongoing solution designs, evaluate emerging technologies, and develop high-level architecture strategies that influence the future of our technology landscape. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and business partners will be central to your role, ensuring that all solutions adhere to architectural standards and security protocols. Your expertise will help shape the technical direction of our projects, ensuring they deliver maximum value and operational excellence.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture. A strong background in designing solutions in public cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is essential, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree, certifications in TOGAF, AWS, or similar frameworks, and over 10 years of experience in software engineering. Candidates with extensive experience in architecting scalable systems within heavily regulated environments (such as HIPAA, PCI, or privacy standards) will be highly valued. Effective communication skills across all organizational levels and the ability to influence technology initiatives are critical. Certifications like AWS Solution Architect-Associate or Cloud Practitioner are advantageous, demonstrating your cloud expertise.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement architectural solutions that support Capital One Canada's business goals, ensuring compliance with our architectural framework and security standards.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, aligning them with strategic objectives.
  • Lead the development and review of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to ensure clarity and consistency in solution architecture.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring solutions meet internal and external standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across various levels to promote innovative technology strategies that enhance business value.
  • Mentor and guide teams in adopting best practices in architecture, fostering continuous improvement and technical excellence.
