About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our dynamic team at Capital One Software Studio. This senior technical position, equivalent to a senior manager level, requires a deep expertise in enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. The role does not entail direct reports but involves leading the technical design and strategic planning of complex solutions that align with our business objectives. You will be instrumental in evaluating new technologies, creating scalable and secure architectures, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to architectural standards and security protocols. Your contributions will directly influence the future of our technology landscape, helping us deliver innovative financial products and services to our customers.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture, with at least 2 years dedicated to creating solutions architectures within a public cloud environment such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree, certifications in TOGAF, AWS, or similar frameworks, and extensive experience in large, complex, regulated environments. Demonstrated ability to influence technology strategies at executive levels, mentor engineering teams, and communicate complex technical concepts effectively across all organizational levels is essential. Relevant certifications like AWS Solution Architect-Associate or Cloud Practitioner are highly desirable.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and compliant architectural solutions aligned with Capital One Canada's strategic goals and architectural standards.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities to support strategic planning and execution.
  • Lead the development, review, and maintenance of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to develop innovative solutions that deliver measurable business value.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams on architectural best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend strategic adoption that enhances our technological capabilities.
  • Ensure all solutions adhere to security standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies, mitigating risks associated with technology implementations.
