About The Role
The Senior Staff Software Engineer at Capital One Canada is a senior-level technical position that plays a critical role in designing and implementing enterprise solutions that align with our strategic objectives. This role is equivalent to a senior management position in terms of influence and responsibility but does not include direct reports. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in enterprise solutions architecture, system design, and hands-on software development. You will be instrumental in shaping the technical landscape of our organization by creating scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of our business and customers.
In this role, you will review ongoing solution designs, evaluate new technologies, and oversee the development of high-level architectural designs. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and business partners to ensure that solutions adhere to architectural standards, security protocols, and best practices. Your contributions will influence the future direction of our technology stack, ensuring that our systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with industry standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with at least 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture. A minimum of 2 years of experience creating solution architectures in a public cloud environment such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud is required. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s Degree, certifications in TOGAF, AWS, or equivalent frameworks, and extensive experience working in large, complex organizations, especially in regulated environments like HIPAA, PCI, or privacy compliance. Strong communication skills, the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, and mentoring experience are highly valued.
Additional preferred qualifications include AWS certifications such as Solution Architect-Associate, experience with scalable and decoupled systems, and proven success in engaging with senior leadership to drive strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement architectural solutions that align with Capital One Canada's strategic business goals and comply with our architectural framework.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
- Create and review Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to guide development teams and ensure consistency.
- Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across various departments to promote innovative technology strategies that enhance business value.
- Mentor and guide teams in adopting best practices for architecture, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
