About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer specializing in international card technology to join our dynamic team at Capital One Canada. This senior technical position, equivalent to a senior manager role, does not involve direct reports but demands extensive expertise in enterprise solutions architecture, technical system design, and hands-on software development. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing scalable, secure, and innovative solutions aligned with our strategic objectives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop customer management capabilities for our international card users, focusing on transitioning from an account-centric to a customer-centric decision-making model. Your work will influence the future of our product offerings and ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering and systems architecture, with at least 2 years of experience creating solutions architectures within public cloud environments such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud, is required. Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in relevant fields, certifications like TOGAF, AWS Solutions Architect, or equivalent, and extensive experience working in large, complex organizations. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of scalable and decoupled system design, experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, PCI, Privacy), and excellent communication skills capable of engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
Responsibilities

  • Design and implement architectural solutions that support Capital One Canada's strategic business objectives, ensuring adherence to our architectural standards and security protocols.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive catalog of technical and business capabilities, aligning them with organizational goals.
  • Lead the development and review of Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) and High-Level Design (HLD) documents to ensure clarity and consistency across projects.
  • Participate actively in governance forums such as the Architectural Review Board, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across various departments to promote innovative technology strategies that enhance business value.
  • Mentor and guide software engineers and architects in adopting best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and oversee their integration into existing systems to improve scalability, security, and performance.
  • Support the development of technical roadmaps and strategic initiatives that align with organizational priorities and industry trends.
