About The Role
Discord is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Data Engineer to join our Data team, with a specific focus on our advertising products. This role is pivotal in shaping the technical vision and strategy for data infrastructure that supports our advertising ecosystem. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex, enterprise-scale data pipelines and datasets that drive insights and decision-making. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, and product managers, to implement scalable solutions that enhance our advertising capabilities. Your leadership will be instrumental in transforming raw data into actionable insights through sophisticated analytical tools, dashboards, and reports. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over 7 years of hands-on experience in data engineering, particularly within advertising or marketing technology domains. You should have a proven track record of designing, coding, and maintaining complex data models and pipelines that handle high-volume structured and unstructured data sources. Expertise in SQL, Python, and modern data engineering frameworks is essential, with demonstrated ability to write performant, maintainable, and scalable code. You should have deep experience working with digital advertising data, including ad serving, conversion tracking, and integrating third-party data sources. Strong knowledge of data quality frameworks, monitoring systems, and automated anomaly detection is required, especially for datasets comprising billions of rows. Leadership experience in mentoring engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving is highly valued. Excellent communication skills are necessary to articulate complex technical concepts to stakeholders and work effectively in dynamic environments. A passion for solving intricate data challenges and a commitment to technical excellence are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities

• Create and maintain complex, enterprise-scale data pipelines and foundational datasets, defining the technical strategy and architectural direction for advertising products.
• Design and develop sophisticated ETL processes, data models, and analytical frameworks utilizing SQL, Python, and modern data stack technologies.
• Implement data quality frameworks, monitoring systems, automated anomaly detection, and alerting infrastructure capable of operating at massive scale.
• Collaborate with data scientists, machine learning engineers, and product teams to translate their requirements into scalable, maintainable data solutions.
