About The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic technology team. This role is pivotal in supporting core business and technology cloud initiatives, specifically focusing on BMO's multi-year cloud technology roadmap. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Enterprise Architecture and business technology stakeholders to facilitate innovation and the adoption of Azure cloud services. As a key member of the cloud engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, documenting, and implementing cloud and application patterns, ensuring they align with organizational standards and industry best practices. Your expertise will help streamline cloud provisioning, management, and security, enabling the organization to leverage cloud solutions effectively and securely. This role requires a self-starter with a proactive mindset, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, while fostering a DevOps culture that emphasizes Infrastructure-as-Code and Infrastructure-as-a-Service models.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over 3 years of experience as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, with a strong background in Azure cloud services. A relevant post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience, is required. Deep knowledge of Azure services such as Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure VMs, Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL, CosmosDB, and Azure Functions is essential. Candidates should also have extensive hands-on experience with cloud provisioning, architecture, and management, including automation tools and scripting languages.
Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or CDKTF is necessary. Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Typescript, Node.js, PowerShell, and Shell scripting are highly valued. Candidates must demonstrate experience in building CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms. Knowledge of networking, security, identity and access management, and disaster recovery strategies in cloud environments is crucial. Excellent communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills are required to effectively work across multiple teams and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions across IaaS, PaaS, and higher-level Azure services.
- Create and integrate BMO’s cloud products, core services, and shared platforms to ensure seamless deployment and management.
- Develop and maintain architectural patterns for automated provisioning, scalability, and security to support organizational needs.
- Ensure all cloud solutions adhere to internal security policies, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Plan and design enterprise-scale cloud environments, including application dependencies, data flow, network architecture, and hosting strategies.
- Develop comprehensive operational documentation and architectural templates to facilitate ongoing maintenance and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement best practices.
- Mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the cloud engineering team.
