Role summary

AIsa is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their early-stage team. This role involves designing and shipping critical backend services, including a high-throughput API gateway, a Kubernetes-based compute layer, and multi-cloud infrastructure. You will work with Python and Go, manage production Kubernetes workloads, and handle large-scale databases and caching. Experience with LLM APIs, streaming protocols, and CI/CD pipelines is essential. The role offers a chance to define architecture from the ground up and build systems for global scale.

You’ll be one of our first engineers, working directly with the founders to design and ship:

- A high-throughput API gateway routing requests across dozens of LLM and data providers. We're building a gateway that can route and fail over
tens of thousands of LLM requests per second

across dozens of providers.
- A Kubernetes-based compute layer that provisions containerized workloads on demand
- A multi-cloud infrastructure spanning Alibaba Cloud, GCP, and AWS

You’ll help define the architecture from day one and ship systems that run at global scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship backend services in Python and Go
  • Run and scale Kubernetes workloads in production
  • Manage cloud infrastructure across Alibaba Cloud, GCP, and AWS
  • Maintain CI/CD pipelines, Docker builds, and deployment workflows
  • Work with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis at scale
  • Integrate LLM provider APIs with streaming, failover, and load balancing
  • Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting

Requirements

  • 4+ years backend engineering experience
  • Strong production Python and Go skills
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience with real workloads
  • Worked with at least two of: Alibaba Cloud, GCP, AWS
  • Comfortable with Docker and container workflows
  • Solid database and caching fundamentals
  • Familiar with LLM APIs and streaming protocols
  • AI-native development workflow (Cursor, Claude Code, etc.)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with API gateways or reverse proxies
  • Background in payment systems, usage-based billing, or payment protocols (Stripe, x402)
  • Multi-tenant architecture experience
  • Frontend skills (React)
