Aker is seeking an Analyst or Associate to join its AI & Platform Engineering team to design, build, and operate production-grade AI systems. This role focuses on large language models (LLMs), agentic systems, and data platforms that power intelligent decision-making and automation across the firm.
This position is suited for individuals who want to build and own real systems end-to-end — from raw data ingestion and transformation to retrieval systems, orchestration layers, and intelligent agents operating reliably at scale. Team members work on live, production-facing initiatives that directly impact firm operations, rather than isolated research or demo projects.
Responsibilities
LLM & Agentic Systems
- Design, build, and enhance LLM-powered platforms, including RAG pipelines, tool-using agents, and structured output systems.
- Develop agentic workflows that plan, reason, and execute tasks across internal tools and data sources.
- Contribute to evaluation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of AI system performance.
Data & Retrieval Infrastructure
- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, indexing, and retrieval of structured and unstructured data.
- Work with vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval strategies to optimize relevance, accuracy, and latency.
- Improve data quality, schema design, and governance practices supporting AI workflows.
Platforms & Integrations
- Evaluate and integrate LLM frameworks, orchestration tools, and model providers.
- Build backend services, APIs, and platform components that support AI workflows and internal tooling.
- Contribute to architectural decisions around scalability, reliability, and security.
Ownership & Documentation
- Own discrete systems or components end-to-end, from design through deployment and iteration.
- Document system architecture, experiments, and operational behavior to support maintainability and long-term scalability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related technical field.
- 1–5 years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or AI/ML systems (Analyst: ~1–3 years; Associate: ~3–5 years).
- Strong proficiency in Python and JavaScript, with a solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and core software engineering principles.
- Experience building and shipping production systems or internal tools.
- Experience working with data programmatically, including querying and transforming datasets using SQL and Python, with familiarity working with MySQL databases.
- Strong intellectual curiosity about how LLMs and modern AI systems function in practice.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, or vector databases (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, ChromaDB, Pinecone).
- Experience with agent frameworks or orchestration tools (e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, Pydantic, or custom agent loops).
- Familiarity with data engineering tools, cloud infrastructure, and Linux environments (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Spark, Ubuntu).
- Exposure to MLOps practices, evaluation frameworks, observability tooling, or AI system reliability engineering.
