About This Opportunity

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a Back End Developer to join a newly expanding engineering hub in Toronto. This is a
*net-new*
position created to support major growth initiatives and to help productize internal platforms into scalable, market‑ready solutions used across diverse healthcare environments.

This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting‑edge AI, cloud-native technology, and healthcare interoperability standards while contributing to solutions that speed up diagnoses and improve radiologist efficiency.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement cloud‑native backend solutions in Java, focused on scalability and commercial readiness.
  • Build and enhance APIs, microservices, and integration layers for external partner and customer consumption.
  • Translate product, business, and customer requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Enable multi‑tenant, configurable, reusable architectures to support SaaS commercialization.
  • Develop integration capabilities with healthcare IT systems using DICOM and HL7 standards.
  • Ensure solutions are production‑ready, reliable, and scalable across varying deployment environments.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, commercialization, and business development teams.
  • Support deployment, packaging, and onboarding processes for customers and external partners.
  • Improve system performance, reliability, and usability to meet commercial SLAs.
  • Contribute to documentation, SDKs, developer tools, and enablement resources.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and backlog grooming.
  • Provide mentorship and promote best practices in building commercially viable software.
  • Support production systems and respond to customer-impacting issues when needed.

What You Bring

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (
*required; must be a 4‑year degree*
).
- 3+ years of experience in backend software development.
- Hands-on proficiency with Java in production environments.
- Experience with microservices, API development, and cloud-native design.
- Exposure to cross-functional teams including product and business stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of scalable system design and software architecture patterns.

Desired Technical Experience

  • Strong backend development using Java.
  • Service‑oriented and event‑driven microservice architectures.
  • API design (RESTful / event‑driven).
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Cloud expertise (AWS preferred, but cloud‑agnostic environments are welcome).
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of multi‑tenant and SaaS product design.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • System integration experience, preferably in complex environments.

Extra Credit

- Healthcare technology experience.
- Strong familiarity with
DICOM and HL7
(highly valued).
- Experience with Quarkus or modern Java frameworks.
- Exposure to product lifecycle, go‑to‑market strategy, or commercialization.
- Experience building developer platforms, SDKs, or partner‑facing integrations.
- Experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development.
