Role summary

Amazon Leo is seeking an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Test Engineer to ensure compliance of avionics and payload/antenna subsystems for its low-earth-orbit satellite network. This role involves acting as a subject matter expert for EMI/EMC testing throughout the development process, supporting test configurations, and performing testing to MIL-STD-461 and/or DO-160 requirements. The engineer will also collaborate on EMI mitigation strategies for harnesses, develop and maintain EMC test software and reports, and conduct troubleshooting investigations with Avionics teams. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 3+ years of experience in EMI/EMC analysis, testing, or compliance are required, along with experience in EMC lab equipment and setup.

We are looking for an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Test Engineer who will focus on compliance of avionics and payload/antenna subsystems for our low-earth-orbit satellite.
Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities

  • Working with hardware design teams as a subject matter expert in electromagnetic environmental effects testing throughout the development process
  • Completion of EMC test procedures by supporting teams with test configurations and performing testing to MIL-STD-461 and/or DO-160 requirements
  • Collaborating with Leo’s harnessing team to develop analysis and mitigation strategies for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in harnesses
  • Development and maintenance of EMC test software and report generation
  • Troubleshooting/Development investigation testing in conjunction with Avionics teams across Amazon Leo

About the team
The Amazon Leo Electrical Engineering team is responsible for architecture and development of satellite bus systems as well as working across payloads on design and development of complex communications systems. In addition to satellite systems, we also play a key role in the development of the Leo Customer Terminal.
The team delivers in multiple areas such as bus development, payload development, embedded SW, signal integrity, power, PCB development, and EMC test. The team includes hardware-in-the-loop development for satellite systems to build out an extensive set of test systems for validated satellite system

## BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • 3+ years of experience with EMI/EMC analysis, testing, and/or compliance
  • Experience with EMC lab test equipment, setup, and configurations

## PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in spaceflight avionics testing as an electromagnetic environmental effects engineer
  • Knowledge and understanding of EMC industry standards and specifications for aerospace (MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-1541A, DO-160, etc)
  • Experience with using analysis tools to define requirements for emissions and susceptibility of avionics components
  • Experience modeling electromagnetic environments using computational software (CST, HFSS, etc).

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
