Senior Software Engineer
Role summary
Twitch is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Mobile Core Engineering team, focusing on Android development. This role is crucial in shaping the foundation of mobile development at Twitch, providing essential tools and frameworks for engineers. The position involves working on high-impact initiatives such as the hybrid web-to-mobile platform, performance optimization, automated testing, and developer tooling. The engineer will own and drive the technical strategy for core Android components, native video playback, and hybrid frameworks, architecting robust WebView integrations. This role requires technical leadership and mentorship, driving architectural decisions, and collaborating across teams to establish development standards for hybrid mobile applications.
### Who you are
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 6+ years of professional Android development experience
- Mastery in Kotlin and modern Android development practices
- Deep understanding of Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and Android architecture components
- 6+ years building and shipping production Android applications to the Google Play Store
- Track record of leading major architectural initiatives, migrations, or platform-level projects
- Experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar across teams
- Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools (such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate development
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience with hybrid mobile architectures, WebView integration, JavaScript bridges, React, or React Native
- Experience with video streaming or real-time communication technologies
- Experience working on platform or infrastructure teams that support multiple product teams
- Familiarity with Twitch, either as a viewer or creator (or both!)

- This role requires independent operation and technical leadership, as you'll regularly provide guidance to product teams across Community and Commerce organizations
- Own and drive the technical strategy for foundational Android components, native video playback infrastructure, and hybrid (React in WebView) frameworks
- Architect and build robust WebView infrastructure and bridges that enable seamless integration between React-based web content and native Android functionality
- Lead performance optimization efforts for platform components used by millions of daily active users, establishing benchmarks and best practices
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Android engineers across multiple product teams and within Mobile Core, including onboarding and growing L4/L5 engineers
- Drive cross-organizational architectural decisions that balance developer velocity, app performance, and maintainability, representing Mobile Core's technical perspective in org-wide discussions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish and maintain development standards for hybrid mobile applications, influencing adoption across the mobile engineering organization
