Role summary

Amazon Private Brands (APB) is seeking a Data Engineer II to design, build, and maintain a self-serve data platform supporting analytics, AI applications, and business operations. The role involves developing automated data pipelines, creating golden datasets with rich metadata and quality monitoring, and partnering with various teams to translate requirements into technical solutions. A key responsibility is driving the adoption of next-generation data technologies, including AI-ready architectures, while ensuring operational excellence and cost efficiency. The position requires 5+ years of data engineering experience, including data modeling, warehousing, and ETL pipeline development. Experience with AWS data services and generative AI tools is preferred.

This team within APB designs, owns and operates the data infrastructure used for driving technology solutions, AI applications, and business operations.
The Role: We are looking for an exceptional Data Engineer. This person will design, implement, support, and track the efficiency of a self-serve data platform for engineers, scientists, AI applications, and business stakeholders (for both technical and non-technical user groups). They will develop the end -to-end automation of data pipelines, making datasets readily-consumable by visualization tools, AI systems, and notification systems. Additionally, they will create automated alarming and dashboards to monitor data integrity. Most importantly, this role will influence the organization to adopt next-generation data technology and frameworks, including AI-ready data architectures, knowing where and when to implement.
Key job responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable data engineering solutions including pipelines, automation frameworks, and AI-ready data infrastructure that supports business analytics, AI applications, and operational reporting across APB
  • Develop golden datasets with rich metadata, automated quality monitoring, and self-service tooling, ensuring data is readily consumable by technical and non-technical users, visualization tools, and AI systems
  • Partner with business teams, scientists, and engineers to translate requirements into innovative technical solutions while establishing and enforcing data standards across the organization
  • Drive adoption of next-generation data technologies and frameworks, balancing creativity with operational excellence and cost efficiency

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)
  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent
  • Usage of generative AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency, with a willingness to learn effective prompting and evaluation practices.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities where generative AI could enhance products, workflows, or customer experiences.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D insurance), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and other resources to improve health and well-being.
