
Compiler Software Engineer - Performance & Optimization
Role summary
AMD is seeking a Compiler Software Engineer specializing in Performance & Optimization to join their small, nimble compiler team in Bellevue, WA. This role focuses on developing and improving the Visual Studio compiler, with a special emphasis on AMD processors. The engineer will analyze and enhance code performance, craft complex optimization passes, and conduct compiler performance analysis. The position requires influencing technical directions and acting as a customer champion. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related discipline is preferred, along with strong C++ programming and debugging skills, and hands-on experience in compiler code generation and optimization for C++ on x86 or any ISA platform.

The Role
As a key member of our small, nimble compiler team you will use your expert software engineering skills to develop and improve Visual Studio compiler with a special focus on AMD processors. When you join our passionate and engaged team, you will notice right away we are committed to success. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing the performance of code produced by the C/C++compiler on AMD products and modifying the compiler to improve the quality of the generated code. It's all about creating the world's best compiler for AMD's line of Ryzen x64 hardware.
The Person
Your leadership skills and technical abilities will directly impact AMD’s success with tier-one partners. You will operate with autonomy and flexibility as you work at least three or four days a week out of the Redmond office. You will work collaboratively with engineers inside and outside of AMD. You will work independently to advance technical program goals independently - drawing on your own expertise, savvy, and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and improve the performance of code to advance the quality across a wide range of high-performance products
- Independently craft and develop complex optimization passes, and code generation on x86 AMD processors
- Conduct Performance Analysis of the compiler
- Influence both tactical and strategic directions of Visual Studio technically as the compiler champion at the customer site
- Act as the customer champion internally
Preferred Experience
- Strong C++ programming experience.
- Debug techniques and methodologies.
- Hands-on experience in complex compiler code generation and optimization in at least one major general-purpose compiler for C++ for x86 or any ISA platform strongly preferred.
- Ability to develop a close working relationship with customers and other performance/compiler teams
Academic Credentials
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related discipline preferred.
