Role summary

Andromeda Surgical is seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to develop novel hardware for their robotic surgical system. This role involves the full hardware lifecycle, from requirements gathering and prototyping to vendor selection and small-batch manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have a technical background in Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, or Mechatronics, with at least 2 years of experience in robotics systems, hands-on hardware development, CAD expertise (Solidworks), and familiarity with quality systems and documentation. Preferred qualifications include firmware/embedded experience, medical device/FDA background, and program/product management skills.

At Andromeda Surgical we are on a mission to build the “Sous Chef“ for surgeons. Our aim is to eliminate the shortage of healthcare workers (esp surgeons) by converting their profession into pure knowledge work. Our first Gen system has a robot arm that can navigate the patient’s target anatomy precisely with guidance from the Surgeon using an iPad.

The Lead Hardware Engineer will be responsible to prototype and productionize novel hardware that seamlessly integrates with our software stack. You will be expected to be part of the whole life cycle of hardware starting from requirement gathering, quick prototyping, vendor selection all the way to small batch manufacturing.

Requirements:

* Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, or Mechatronics technical background and degree.
* 2 years of experience
* Prior experience with robotics systems
* Familiarity with quality systems and engineering documentation involved
* Hands-on development experience prototyping, testing, and building hardware. Using soldering iron
* CAD expertise in Solidworks

Nice to Have

* Firmware and embedded experience. You won’t be required to write code, but you’ll be the bridge between hardware and an internal team of software engineers
* Medical device or FDA background and exposure to QMS systems
* Manufacturing quality and process depth
* Program/Product management experience scoping requirements, budgeting resources, and planning projects
