
Reliability Test Engineer
Role summary
Apple's Reliability Lab team is seeking a Reliability Test Engineer to support the testing of durability and longevity of prototype hardware designs. This role involves evaluating new materials for cosmetic and functional failures through various simulated real-world use scenarios, such as staining and discoloration. Responsibilities include setting up test equipment, collecting and analyzing data, documenting results with photography and specialized tools like spectrophotometers, and presenting findings to Reliability Engineers. The position requires exceptional attention to detail, understanding of physics and electronics, and experience in a reliability or materials testing lab, including digital microscopy. Familiarity with MacOS, iOS, and color measurement equipment is preferred.

The Rel Labs team works collaboratively to produce data that will enable Reliability Engineers to determine the best designs to choose for mass production. This role will support all materials testing, with a focus on cosmetic as well as functional failures.
Description
As a Reliability Test Engineer, you’ll utilize your collaborative and comprehensive skills and experience to evaluate new materials in a variety of scenarios that simulate real-world use such as staining from food and discoloration due to sunlight exposure. You will set up test equipment and fixtures, collect data, and analyze results.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts or Science, or five years equivalent experience
Familiarity with color measurement equipment such as spectrophotometers
Proficient in MacOS, iOS, and Apple hardware
Minimum Qualifications
Exceptional attention to detail, translating into excellent written and verbal communication
Understand physics and electronics, applying creativity, common sense, and technical skills to solve complex problems
Experience working in a Reliability or materials testing lab
Experience taking high quality images with digital microscopes and camera systems

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $58.32 and $88.08/hr, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
