Role summary

Applied Digital is seeking a mid-level Power Regulatory Compliance Manager to join their Energy Strategy organization. This role will focus on managing the evaluation, monitoring, and compliance with evolving regulatory structures impacting high computational loads and their energy supply for data center projects. The ideal candidate will be a self-sufficient project manager experienced in working with electric utilities, consulting firms, or large loads in a regulatory management capacity. Key responsibilities include coordinating with regulatory bodies like NERC, FERC, and RTO/ISOs, managing filings, and interfacing with internal teams to ensure adherence to regulatory obligations. This is an execution-focused role reporting to the VP Energy Strategy.

Position Summary:

Applied Digital is seeking a mid-level Power Regulatory Compliance Manager to join our growing Energy Strategy organization. This role will manage the evaluation, monitoring and compliance with the evolving regulatory structures impacting high computational loads and related energy supply to Applied Digital’s data center projects.

The ideal candidate will be a self-sufficient project manager who can contribute across the full project lifecycle, integrate with cross functional teams to drive project delivery, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality insights aligned with business objectives.

This role is execution-focused and sits at the center of utility, regulatory, and contractual coordination and reports to the VP Energy Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day coordination with various regulatory bodies including NERC, FERC, RTO/ISO (e.g., MISO, PJM), electric utilities hosting Applied projects, and state regulators across projects.
  • Identify, track and ensure compliance with regulations concerning computational load and their energy supply related matters.
  • Participate as a stakeholder in various agency rule making processes and with associated trade group initiatives in shaping regulatory constructs.
  • Manage company regulatory filings, approvals, and compliance reporting.
  • Engage and manage related consultants and other third party support required for compliance management.
  • Serve as the subject matter knowledge base within the company and interface with project development, operations, legal, finance, and regulatory counterparties to support project schedules, milestones, and adherence to regulatory obligations.
  • Focus on execution, risk identification and management, and keeping projects moving once regulatory requirements are defined.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with electric utilities, consulting firms, independent power producers or large loads in a regulatory management role, implementing and managing compliance programs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business-related field (accounting, finance, management), or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • Experience interfacing with wholesale power market RTOs/ISOs and their regulatory processes, as well as the evolving reliability requirements for large computational loads.
  • Basic understanding of transmission grid operations and power generation technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data center computational loads is a plus.
  • Knowledge of RTO and ISO constructs across various US regions.
  • Prior NERC related experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Knowledgeable in electrical load and/or generation interconnection processes
  • Experience in gas supply arrangements also a plus.
