. This is a "hands-on leadership" role requiring deep insurance domain knowledge and the ability to manage the functional lifecycle from a high-level roadmap down to the final UAT sign-off.
Key Responsibilities
1. Requirement Elaboration & Documentation
- Discovery & Synthesis:
Lead deep-dive discovery sessions with underwriters, actuaries, and claims experts to extract complex business rules.
- Functional Specification:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including
Functional Requirement Documents (FRDs)
, Process Flow Diagrams, and Data Mapping sheets.
- Knowledge Repository:
Own the
Confluence
(or similar) space, ensuring documentation is version-controlled, searchable, and serves as a "Single Source of Truth" for both the client and the offshore dev team.
2. Jira Mastery & Story Writing
- Backlog Excellence:
Transform the high-level roadmap into a granular, prioritized
Product Backlog
within Jira.
- User Story Crafting:
Write "Ready-to-Dev" user stories using the
INVEST
principle. Each story must include:
- Clear Business Context & Value Statement.
- Detailed Functional Requirements.
- Robust
Acceptance Criteria (AC)
including "Happy Path" and "Edge Case" scenarios.
- Technical Mapping:
Ensure Jira stories clearly define data source-to-target mappings and business logic for the Snowflake data platform.
3. Strategic Roadmap & Client Interaction
- Vision Ownership:
Partner with the Client VP/SVP level to define and evolve the Insurance Product Roadmap.
- Stakeholder Alignment:
Manage expectations regarding MVP (Minimum Viable Product) vs. future phases, ensuring technical debt and business value are balanced.
4. Agile Execution (Onshore-Offshore Model)
- Sprint Orchestration:
Lead all Agile ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Refinement, Retrospectives) across time zones.
- Functional Triage:
Act as the primary point of contact for the offshore team to resolve requirement ambiguities in real-time.
- UAT & Quality Assurance:
Lead the
User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
phase. Partner with business users to validate features, manage defect triaging in Jira, and provide final functional sign-off before production releases.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Insurance Domain Mastery:
10+ years of experience in
P&C, Life, or Specialty Insurance
. Deep understanding of policy lifecycles, claims processing, or insurance regulatory reporting.
- Agile Expert:
Advanced proficiency in
Agile/Scrum
methodologies. You should be able to explain how you’ve scaled Agile in a global delivery model.
- Tool Expert:
Power-user level skills in
Jira and Confluence
. Experience with visual modeling tools (Visio, Lucidchart, or Miro) for process mapping.
- Data Literacy:
Sufficient technical depth to discuss
Snowflake schemas
, SQL logic, and API integrations with data engineers.
- Communication:
Masterful ability to translate "Insurance Speak" into "Developer Speak."
Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Backlog Health:
Having 2–3 Sprints of "Ready" stories at any given time.
- Requirement Clarity:
Minimal "return-to-PO" rate from the development team due to unclear requirements.
- UAT Success:
High percentage of "First-Time Right" UAT sign-offs by business users
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Information technology, Computer Science or related field.
