Role summary

Astrion is seeking a Flight Test Engineer at Redstone Arsenal, AL. This full-time role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with 3-6 years of experience (or 1-4 years with a Master's). The candidate must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance and an FAA Class III medical certificate. Responsibilities include conducting developmental flight tests, serving as crewmember on flight test aircraft, monitoring in-flight activities via telemetry, preparing test documentation, analyzing engineering data, and writing comprehensive test reports. Experience with rotary-wing or fixed-wing flight testing is desired.

Flight Test Engineer
at Redstone Arsenal, AL.
Required Qualifications / Skills

  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline. Engineering degree must be from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program.
  • Must possess a Bachelor's Degree and 3 to 6 years’ experience or a Master’s Degree and 1 to 4 years’ experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an FAA Class III medical certificate.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship is required for all applicants)

Desired Qualifications / Skills

  • Rotary-wing or fixed-wing flight test experience, or experience in a related discipline is desired.
  • MS degree in any of the above-mentioned disciplines is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct developmental flight test for Utility Assault platforms.
  • Perform flight test engineer duties as crewmember on flight test aircraft.
  • Monitor in-flight test activities, via real-time telemetry systems or as an aircraft crewmember.
  • Work as part of a diverse team of contractor, military, and civilian experimental test pilots and engineers.
  • Prepare pre-test documentation (test plans, test readiness reviews, safety reviews).
  • Provide technical expertise with regard to the method of test that will best achieve the test objectives.
  • Perform in-depth engineering data reduction and analysis.
  • Write comprehensive test reports to provide usable, accurate, and readily-interpretable results.
  • Prepare/deliver presentations to colleagues, subordinates, and government representatives.
