The engineer will work collaboratively on projects, applying data practices and tools to enhance reporting accuracy, data quality, and business insights within AXIS Finance platforms. The ideal candidate is a data professional with strong technical and analytical skills, comfortable working with business partners and following established standards under senior guidance. Responsibilities include gathering reporting requirements, providing day-to-day support for core Finance applications, assisting with data issue investigations, and participating in quality assurance testing.

Job Description: Finance Data Engineer
We are seeking a Finance Data Engineer to join our Data & Analytics team within the Platforms & Transformation group. In this role, you will support the delivery of reliable data, reporting, and analysis for Finance stakeholders. You will work as part of a collaborative project team, applying established data practices and tools to support reporting accuracy, data quality, and business insight across AXIS Finance platforms.
This role is well suited for a data professional with strong technical and analytical skills who enjoys working with business partners, following defined standards, and contributing to data initiatives under guidance from senior team members.
What Will You Do in This Role?
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Work with business users to gather reporting requirements and support the delivery of standard and ad‑hoc reports from relational and multidimensional databases.
- Provide day‑to‑day reporting, troubleshooting, and user support for core Finance applications, including Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, Oracle GL, Anaplan, and Salesforce.
- Support enhancements to existing data products and reports by contributing analysis and documentation under guidance from senior team members.
- Assist in investigating data issues or discrepancies and support efforts to trace issues back to source systems, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Apply existing Finance metrics and reporting definitions to ensure consistency and accuracy in delivered data products.
- Participate in quality assurance (QA) testing and support business users during user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Follow data governance standards and contribute to maintaining master data and metadata for enterprise Finance solutions.
- Run queries to understand existing data structures, relationships, and calculations to support documentation and reporting needs.
- Use strong Excel skills to analyze and document existing workbooks, including those with macros and complex formulas, to support improvement or migration efforts.
- Execute defined test cases and assist with validating data in on‑premises SQL Server and Azure Databricks environments.

What You Need to Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 3–5 years of experience in a data‑focused role (e.g., data engineer, data analyst, reporting analyst).
- Strong SQL and Excel skills.
- Foundational knowledge of Finance and Accounting concepts.
- Experience working with structured data and supporting reporting or analytics solutions.
- Familiarity with data governance and data quality concepts.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to follow structured approaches to investigate data issues.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a project‑based environment.
- Ability to work effectively as an independent contributor within a collaborative team.
What We Prefer You to Have
- Exposure to Oracle eBusiness Suite and Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management applications.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and/or Azure Databricks.
- Experience creating or supporting reports using Power BI, SSRS, or Power Query.
- Exposure to Anaplan or similar planning tools.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar work‑tracking tools.
- Ability to read or make minor updates to code in Python, C#, or similar languages.
- Prior experience supporting data or analytics projects.
- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
- Insurance industry experience is a plus, but not required.
Role Factors:
This position is a hybrid role and will require mandatory in office presence 3 days per week.
