Job Summary:
The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) will support BNY’s Structured Debt Platform Engineering team, focusing on improving the reliability, scalability, security, and performance of a portfolio of mission-critical, on-prem and private-cloud applications. This role operates in a highly Agile environment, balancing modernization of legacy platforms with development of new systems as part of ongoing DevOps and automation initiatives. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA with 4+ days onsite and includes occasional off-hours support for production incidents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Platform Reliability & Operations: Ensure high availability, performance, and stability across ~18 structured debt applications hosted on private cloud infrastructure (Azure-based), including incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation.
- DevOps & Automation: Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines, implement monitoring and observability tools, and automate operational workflows using modern DevOps and SRE practices.
- Application Modernization: Support a 50/50 mix of maintaining existing applications and building or migrating to new platforms to replace legacy systems; onboard to 1–2 applications initially and expand coverage over time.
- System Monitoring & Performance: Proactively monitor applications and infrastructure using tools such as Splunk and AppDynamics; identify bottlenecks and reliability risks before they impact users.
- Cross-Program Engineering Support: Rotate across programs as priorities shift, supporting both new initiatives and cleanup of older applications in Al’s engineering space.
- Collaboration & Delivery: Work closely with engineering, infrastructure, and security teams in an Agile environment to deliver secure, resilient, and continuously improving systems.
Qualifications:
- 8–10+ years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or technical operations
- Strong hands-on engineering background beyond scripting, including Java-based systems and distributed applications
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring/observability tools, and production support
- Proficiency with DevOps and SRE tooling such as Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, Python, Terraform, Splunk, and AppDynamics
- Experience with SQL/Sybase databases and messaging technologies (Kafka, Hazelcast)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Experience:
- Financial services or securities industry background
- Exposure to AWS, Azure, or S3 (helpful, though the environment is primarily on-prem/private cloud)
- Advanced degree
- Experience supporting large portfolios of legacy applications undergoing modernization
Why Join Us:
You’ll join a well-tenured, highly technical team driving the modernization of a complex structured debt platform at the core of BNY’s technology ecosystem. This role offers hands-on ownership of critical systems, deep exposure to DevOps and SRE transformation work, and the opportunity to shape how new platforms replace legacy infrastructure—all while working with cutting-edge tools in a business-critical environment.
