Role summary
The Assistant Program Manager provides essential part-time support for the Elementary Summer Learning Program, ensuring a smooth, organized, and engaging environment for students in grades K-5. This role involves assisting teachers with activity setup, providing flexible classroom coverage as a floater, and supporting student assessments and daily data tracking. The ideal candidate is a reliable, hands-on individual with previous experience working with elementary-aged children and at least 24 college credits. Responsibilities include managing daily operations, transitions, and supply coordination to maintain program stability and student comfort.

Location: Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence (South Side clubhouse at 1 Louisa Street and Chad Brown clubhouse at 263 Chad Brown Street)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (25 hours/week)
Status: Seasonal (Summer): must be available late June through mid-August
Payrate: $20.00 per hour
Job Summary
The Assistant Program Director provides essential part-time support during the core hours of the Elementary Summer Learning Program. This role focuses on ensuring a smooth, organized, and engaging environment for students (Grades K-5). The ideal candidate is a reliable "hands-on" leader who can assist with student assessments, set up daily activities, and step into classrooms to provide coverage and support for teachers and TAs.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Activity & Classroom Support
● Activity Prep: Assist teachers in setting up hands-on materials for literacy centers, STEM projects, and art activities.
● Flexible Coverage: Serve as the primary "floater" to fill in for Teachers or TAs during the 9–2 window, maintaining a safe and supervised classroom environment.
● Instructional Assistance: Help facilitate prepared lesson plans or read-alouds when staff need additional support.
2. Elementary Assessment & Data
● Testing Support: Help proctor and organize age-appropriate student pre- and post-assessments (such as reading level checks or basic math benchmarks).
● Daily Records: Assist the Program Director in tracking daily attendance and simple participation metrics for program reporting.
3. Daily Operations
● Transition Management: Help guide younger student groups safely between morning academic blocks, snack time, lunch, and outdoor play.
● Supply Coordination: Ensure classrooms and common areas have the necessary supplies (crayons, paper, kits, tech) ready for the day’s scheduled rotations.
Qualifications
-Education: Minimum of 24 college credits required, preferably including coursework in Elementary or Secondary Education, Youth Development, Recreation, Early Childhood Education, or related field. High School diploma required.
-Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, camp, or childcare setting.
-Adaptability: Ability to jump into different grade-level settings (K-5) and support various subjects or play-based activities.
-Reliability:Consistent attendance during the 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM shift Monday through Friday is essential for the stability of the program and the comfort of the students.
-Demonstrated ability to communicate positively with children of ages 6-12.
-Ability to follow policies and procedures of organization, in behavior management, safety and security, emergency procedures, etc.
-Ability to successfully pass all background checks if a conditional offer of employment is made, including but not limited to: national, state, and local background checks (fingerprint-based); continuous criminal records monitoring during the course of employment; RI D.C.Y.F. clearance; child abuse registry clearances; employment and education verifications; reference checks; pre-employment drug test (for illegal drugs).
