Role summary

Breakthrough Atlanta is seeking a College Prep Program Manager to guide underserved high school students (grades 9-12) toward post-secondary enrollment and success. This full-time role involves developing and delivering college preparation advising, financial aid counseling, SAT/ACT prep, and career exploration programs. The manager will create curriculum, host advising sessions, curate resources, maintain student data, build relationships with counselors and partners, and prepare recommendation letters. The position reports to the Director of College Prep Programs and requires a bachelor's degree, 3-5 years of experience in college counseling or admissions, and a commitment to student success in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The role is hybrid remote in Atlanta, GA.

Position Overview

Breakthrough Atlanta pursues a dual mission to place highly motivated, underserved students on a path to post-secondary enrollment and success, and to inspire the next generation of teachers and education leaders. Breakthrough Atlanta is seeking a Program Manager for its college-prep program.

Breakthrough Atlanta's College Prep Program serves students in grades 9 through 12 who primarily attend public schools in Metro Atlanta. Programming includes college preparation advising, financial aid counseling, access to free SAT/ACT preparation courses, pre-college experiences, and career exploration.

The role of the College Prep Programs Manager involves hosting advising sessions, planning curriculum, and developing grade-level programs to effectively prepare Metro Atlanta students for success after high school. This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of College Prep Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Creating college preparation and advising lessons for 10th and 11th grade students.
  • Hosting virtual college preparation advising sessions on a monthly basis
  • Training and assisting students/families to complete college readiness activities, such as pre-college, internship, and scholarship applications
  • Planning in-person Super Saturday school-year project-based learning sessions for 10th and 11th graders
  • Curating pre-college, internship, and college financial aid resources and opportunities for high school students
  • Maintaining a database related to high school student engagement and success
  • Preparing and developing comprehensive letters of recommendation for students
  • Cultivating and maintaining relationships with high school counselors in the Metro Atlanta area, Breakthrough partners, and college admission professionals to ensure academic success and college preparation for Breakthrough Atlanta students
  • Participating in program team meetings focused on school year and summer programming, student/parent engagement, and data monitoring
  • Adhering to all policies about the program to ensure the safety of all students
  • Engaging in continuous professional learning opportunities and applying new knowledge to increase student achievement and engagement

Experience, Skills & Attributes

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree is required; master’s degree preferred
  • Interested applicants should have 3-5 years of experience in college counseling and/or college admissions
  • The drive, organization, and flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the school community beyond Breakthrough Atlanta
  • The ability to demonstrate a caring and enthusiastic leadership style and model best practices related to a positive school climate
  • Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills to facilitate relationship building with students, parents, partners, colleagues, and supervisors
  • A strong desire to work in a collaborative learning community, employing a growth mindset and participating in ongoing professional development
  • Desire and ability to develop an atmosphere of trust and knowledge of students as individuals
  • Purposeful design of programming and assessment in order to reach a diverse community of stakeholders
