## About Topper Industries
Topper Industries is a U.S. manufacturer of engineered aluminum marine infrastructure including gangways, floating docks, marina systems, and access structures. Our products are used in marinas, waterfront developments, and marine facilities across North America.
We are transitioning from a traditional custom engineering model to a product platform architecture supported by parametric design automation. This role will be responsible for building the engineering system that enables scalable growth.
# Position Overview
Topper Industries is seeking a Product Platform Engineer with deep expertise in Autodesk Inventor parametric modeling and automation.
This role will lead the development of a parametric engineering platform that enables automated generation of assemblies, fabrication drawings, bills of materials, and CNC outputs for our core product lines.
The goal is to transform engineering from project-by-project design into a configurable product platform.
# Core Responsibilities
### Parametric Engineering Platform
- Design and implement parametric product models using Autodesk Inventor
- Develop skeleton-driven modeling architecture for core products
- Create reusable component libraries
- Implement automation using Inventor iLogic
### Product Platform Development
Develop modular product systems for:
- gangways
- dock frames
- railing systems
- connection hardware
These systems should allow projects to be configured via parameters rather than redesigned from scratch.
### Engineering Automation
Build systems that automatically generate:
- assembly models
- fabrication drawings
- bills of materials
- material takeoffs
- CNC DXF exports
### Sales Configurator Support
Collaborate with leadership to develop a product configurator that allows sales teams to generate:
- preliminary layouts
- weight estimates
- preliminary pricing
- drawing packages from the defined project parameters.
### Engineering Standards
Establish standards for:
- parametric modeling architecture
- component libraries
- drawing templates
- BOM structures
- file organization
# Key Projects (First 12 Months)
Phase 1 – Gangway Platform
Develop a parametric system capable of generating:
- gangway assemblies
- fabrication drawings
- BOM outputs
based on parameters such as:
- length
- width
- decking type
- railing type
- load requirements
Phase 2 – Dock Frame Platform
Parametric floating dock system including:
- float spacing
- frame members
- utilities
- cleat locations
Phase 3 – Railing Platform
Standardized railing kits including:
- ADA railing systems
- safety railings
- modular mounting systems
Phase 4 – Engineering Automation
Implement automation for:
- drawing generation
- BOM exports
- CNC cutting files
# Required Qualifications
### Technical Expertise
- Expert-level proficiency in Autodesk Inventor
- Experience building parametric assemblies
- Strong experience with iLogic automation
- Experience with skeleton-driven modeling
- Experience generating fabrication drawings
- Understanding of manufacturing workflows
### Engineering Background
- Mechanical engineering or similar background
- Experience working with fabricated products
- Experience with structural or mechanical assemblies
### System Thinking
This role requires someone who can design engineering systems, not just individual parts.
# Preferred Experience
- Experience with engineering configurators
- Experience with modular product platforms
- Experience with ERP/BOM integration
- Experience in marine, structural, or industrial fabrication
# Success Metrics
Success in this role will be measured by:
- reduction in engineering hours per project
- increased drawing output per engineer
- successful deployment of parametric product systems
- reduction in drawing cycle time
- successful implementation of engineering automation
