Role summary
A Senior AWS Cloud Platform Engineer is sought for a hybrid infrastructure role supporting public safety IT modernization. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills and experience with hybrid cloud environments. This is a hybrid position within a government client.
Our state government client is seeking a
Senior AWS Cloud Platform Engineer
to support enterprise modernization initiatives within a Public Safety IT environment. This role focuses on designing, optimizing, and supporting
hybrid cloud platforms (AWS + on-prem)
while improving scalability, automation, and operational efficiency.
You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to modernize infrastructure, reduce manual processes, and implement secure, scalable cloud solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure
- Design, build, and manage AWS environments (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3)
- Develop hybrid architectures integrating AWS with on-prem systems
- Lead cloud migration efforts and modernization roadmaps
- Create architecture diagrams (network, dependencies, services)
Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide L3 support for complex infrastructure issues
- Troubleshoot AWS IAM, networking, and compute issues
- Perform root cause analysis and document remediation strategies
- Resolve hybrid issues (AD sync, routing, IAM misconfigurations)
Automation & DevOps
- Define Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using
Terraform
- Support CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments
- Collaborate on automation using tools like
Ansible
- Standardize provisioning and deployment processes
Performance, Cost & Reliability
- Optimize performance (compute, storage, network)
- Implement monitoring dashboards and alerting
- Ensure DR/backup strategies meet
RTO/RPO
- Drive
FinOps initiatives
(cost optimization, rightsizing)
Security & Compliance
- Enforce AWS security best practices (IAM, MFA, encryption)
- Implement guardrails and network segmentation
- Produce audit documentation and compliance artifacts
- Develop platform hardening and governance guidelines
Documentation & Collaboration
- Maintain architecture documentation and standards
- Create operational guides and onboarding materials
- Support knowledge transfer and compliance audits
- Provide executive-level updates on modernization efforts
Required Qualifications
-5+ years of experience in AWS cloud infrastructure
-Strong expertise in
AWS IAM (RBAC, policies, role boundaries)
-Experience with
hybrid cloud environments (AWS + on-prem)
-Hands-on experience with:
- EC2, VPC, S3, IAM
- Terraform (IaC)
- CI/CD pipelines
-Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
-Experience with
cost optimization / FinOps practices

Preferred Qualifications
