Role summary
The Automation Engineer will provide expertise in programming, setup, and operation of automated metal fabrication machinery, reporting to the Operations Manager. This role focuses on maximizing machine efficiency, optimizing raw material usage, and minimizing waste. Responsibilities include programming state-of-the-art machines with FANUC controls, optimizing operational flow, establishing manufacturing standards through efficient nesting, planning part routings, and ensuring "lights out" operation capabilities. The engineer will also identify cost reduction opportunities, train operators, maintain equipment uptime through preventative maintenance, and uphold quality standards. A minimum of 5 years in metal fabrication is required, with experience in specific software like Dr. Abe and AP100US being preferred.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Automation Engineer provides expertise in the areas of machine operation including programming, setup and running of automated machinery. This role is responsible for ensuring automated machines are programmed to maximize efficiencies including raw material usage, machine setup / run times and minimizing waste.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Program / Operate state-of-the-art metal fabrication machines equipped with automation and robotics.
· Optimize flow of operations to maximize machine time efficiency, material utilization and minimize waste from raw materials to finished goods.
· Establish standards of part manufacturing through efficient nesting of raw parts to realize byproducts and minimize waste.
· Plan part routings to maximize machine usage such as common cuts, punch vs. laser cut and machine use.
· Maximize capabilities of machines to operate “lights out.”
· Identify opportunities to reduce part cost by improved manufacturing processes and/or feedback to engineering design team.
· Train operators on setup of machines and running jobs.
· Ensure up time of capital equipment and tooling including preventative maintenance.
· Advocate quality by maintaining company and/or work center specific quality standards including manufacturing documented processes, preventative maintenance, and calibration requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
· Experience in programming, setup and running of automated machines with robotic capability with FANUC controls.
· Experience with Dr. Abe and AP100US software.
· Understanding of raw materials including aluminum, copper and steel.
· Resource Planning (ERP) systems, and Microsoft Productivity Tools.
· SolidWorks
· Knowledgeable of fabrication machinery including press brakes, laser/punch equipment, welding, and powder coating.
· Exceptional knowledge of reading drawings, programming automated machinery, analytical skills, computer, and understanding of optimum machine utilization.
· Able to work in, lead, and promote a team environment.
· Ability to work under minimal supervision.
· Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization.
· Strong analytical skills.
· Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal & written) and organizational skills.
EXPERIENCE:
· A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of Metal Fabrication.
EDUCATION:
· Four Year Degree or equivalent experience.
· Additional professional accreditation/certification a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Factory Environment: Clean, bright, climate-controlled area. Elevated noise level and light industrial chemicals, personal protective equipment required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting may be necessary (up to 55 lbs). Light bending and reaching. Long periods of walking/standing as well as sitting/computer work.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
