Data Analyst - Informatics and Systems
Role summary
The Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) is seeking a Data Analyst to join their professional team. This role involves gathering, consolidating, and managing data from various sources related to organic production, trade, and consumer trends. The analyst will conduct statistical and predictive analyses to identify growth opportunities, track industry performance, and forecast market dynamics. Responsibilities include preparing detailed reports, dashboards, and visualizations for stakeholders, including leadership and industry partners. The position also requires collaboration with industry stakeholders on strategic initiatives and monitoring organic certification standards. A Bachelor's degree in a related field and proficiency in data analytics tools are required.
THE ORGANIZATION
The Canada Organic Trade Association is the membership-based association for the organic sector in Canada: representing growers, processors, certifiers, provincial farmers' associations, importers, exporters, retailers and others throughout the organic value chain. COTA's mission is to promote and protect the growth of organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy. COTA brings together the diversity of Canada’s organic sector: from farmer and processor to retail, including food products, fiber and textiles, personal care, and emerging sectors such as organic aquaculture. COTA is a member-service organization: providing information, data and strategic insights to its membership base, representing organic to the media and government, and leading consumer education and promotion campaigns to benefit organic. COTA protects organic by playing an active role in standard-setting and industry priority-setting, as well as influence on important regulatory issues. COTA also leads a series of export missions internationally: promoting Canadian organic products abroad, building market intelligence on key markets, and developing the market and regulatory conditions to benefit Canadian organic companies abroad. COTA has been a champion of organic equivalency arrangements to encourage trade and improve market access for Canadian operators.
Position Summary
We seek a talented and committed Data Analyst professional with a strong commitment to detail, excellent analytical skills, and with strong data management experience to join our professional team.
Functions
Data Collection & Management
- Gather and consolidate data from diverse sources, including market reports, trade databases, and internal records. Maintain and update comprehensive datasets related to organic production, trade, and consumer trends. Data Analysis & Insights Analyze market trends, supply chain data, and consumer preferences to identify growth opportunities. Conduct statistical analyses to track industry performance,organic certification adoption, and trade flows. Develop predictive models to forecast market demand and supply chain dynamics.
Reporting & Communication
- Prepare detailed reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders. Present insights and recommendations to leadership, industry partners, and regulatory bodies. Collaboration & Strategy Development Work with industry stakeholders to identify challenges and opportunities for organic sector growth. Support strategic initiatives, including policy advocacy, market development, and sustainability efforts. Partner with marketing teams to identify trends and consumer engagement opportunities. Compliance & Standards Monitoring Track changes in organic certification standards and equivalency arrangements. Ensure data insights align with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, Economics, Statistics, Agribusiness, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proficiency in data analytics tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, Power BI, R, Python).
- Experience working in agriculture, food, or organic sectors is a strong asset. Strong knowledge of organic certification standards and equivalency arrangements (preferred). Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to communicate complex data to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

- English/French bilingual preferred
- Organic experience considered an asset
