About The Role
We're looking for a Staff Engineer to serve as the technical backbone across 2–3 of our delivery pods. You'll lead 8–15 engineers, set the technical bar, and keep things shipping cleanly — all while still getting your hands dirty in the codebase. This isn't a people-management role; it's a
*technical authority*
role with real decision-making power.
You'll own architecture compliance, quality gates, and merge authority for your pods. You'll partner closely with our Technical Program Managers (who handle capacity, velocity, and process) so you can stay focused on what matters most: making sure we're building the right things the right way.
This is a remote position, with preference given to those located in eastern/central time zones US.
What You'll Do

  • Lead technically across 2–3 pods — provide day-to-day technical direction and oversight for contractor engineering teams
  • Author Technical Design Documents (TDDs) for complex features, setting the blueprint before code gets written
  • Own quality and architecture compliance — enforce standards, run code reviews, and hold merge/block authority
  • Shape the backlog — provide technical feasibility input during grooming so the team isn't chasing things that won't work
  • Write code — stay hands-on (20–30% of your time) to keep context sharp and lead by example
  • Retain knowledge — build and maintain documentation so critical context doesn't walk out the door
  • Coordinate with TPMs on pod capacity and delivery health
  • Serve as the on-call escalation point for your assigned pods

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful time spent in technical leadership roles
  • Proven track record of leading teams of engineers through complex, multi-system deliveries
  • Strong architectural thinking — you can zoom out to system design and zoom in to a code review without missing a beat
  • Experience writing technical design documents that actually get read and followed
  • Comfort working in a model with contractor engineering teams and cross-functional partners
  • A bias toward clarity — in your code, your docs, and your decisions
  • Technical Stack Proficiency: Deep experience with C#/.NET and modern backend service development in Azure, including Azure Functions, Durable Functions, and Kubernetes-based workloads. Strong understanding of event-driven distributed systems built on Azure Service Bus, plus working proficiency in React for frontend application development. Comfortable operating across the full stack and making sound technical decisions in cloud-native architectures.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in environments with dedicated TPM/engineering partnerships
  • Background scaling systems or teams in a high-growth or enterprise context
  • Familiarity with compliance-heavy or regulated industries
