Full stack web developer/programmer
Role summary
Companions Journeying Together seeks a volunteer Full Stack Web Developer to enhance their web-based system for the Aunt Mary's Storybook program, which connects incarcerated individuals with their children through recorded story readings. The developer will collaborate with a team to add features and fix bugs in a codebase hosted on GitHub, built with CodeIgniter 4, and deployed on Amazon AWS. Proficiency in PHP and SQL is required, with experience in MVC frameworks like CodeIgniter. Experience with Bootstrap is a plus. This role offers a chance to directly impact families while sharpening technical skills.
Companions Journeying Together provides programs of compassion for incarcerated people & their families in Illinois. We are perhaps most well known for our Aunt Mary's Storybook program which connects people in custody with the children most important to them through reading and literacy. We also coordinate pen-pal groups and facilitate Christmas Cards, Mother's Day Cards, and Birthday Cards for justice-involved people.

Aunt Mary's Storybook, a project of Companions Journeying Together, bridges the distance between incarcerated people and the children most important to them, by recording touching audio readings of stories. Transitioning from cassette tapes to CDs, and now to a web-based system, we've innovated our delivery over the years to connect families in profound ways.
We now seek a dedicated
PHP
volunteer web developer to join our current team of talented developers. Together, you'll enhance our existing system, bringing new features to life, and smoothing out any bugs. Your work will be instrumental in enriching the lives of those separated by incarceration.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with other volunteer developers to add features and fix bugs
- Work with a codebase hosted in GitHub, built using CodeIgniter 4, and hosted on Amazon AWS
- Participate in team communication via Slack
Skills We're Looking For
- Proficiency in PHP and SQL
- Experience with CodeIgniter or similar MVC frameworks
- Experience with Bootstrap is a plus
- A detail-oriented approach to coding and problem-solving
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work well with a team

- Must be located in the United States
