About This Role

As a Data Engineer at Covered, you will own and evolve our modern data platform, ensuring that trusted, well-governed data powers every decision across the organization.

You will lead the design and development of scalable data pipelines in Databricks, curate business-ready datasets for consumption in Sigma, and establish the foundational data governance framework that ensures quality, consistency, and reliability across all reporting and analytics.

Partnering closely with the Product & Engineering organization, you will work with Agency Operations, Finance, and Business Development to align on shared metrics, define trusted data sources, and enable scalable self-service analytics across Covered’s business units.

This role combines deep technical execution with architectural leadership and cross-functional influence. You will be expected to raise the bar for data quality, modeling, testing, governance, and platform reliability while mentoring others and driving the organization toward more scalable, consistent, and maintainable data solutions.

This role involves operational knowledge, technical development, and also provides support to end users and stakeholders. Our HubSpot Developer plays a critical role in optimizing the HubSpot’s performance and ensuring its effective utilization across the organization.

About You And Your Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years as a hands-on technical contributor in data engineering, analytics engineering, or backend engineering
  • Deep experience designing and building modern data platforms
  • Strong expertise with Python and SQL
  • Experience with Databricks or similar cloud data lakehouse platforms
  • Extensive experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines and API-based ingestion workflows
  • Experience ingesting and normalizing data from operational systems such as HubSpot and other SaaS platforms
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development and improve reliability
  • Demonstrated ability to design scalable data models
  • Experience enabling BI platforms such as Sigma, Tableau, Looker, or Power BI
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles including data quality monitoring, access control, documentation, and metric standardization
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and elevate technical standards
  • Strong communication skills; able to explain technical and governance concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with AWS (preferred)
  • Experience with CI/CD principles and automated testing for data pipelines
  • Experience working within the product management space (a plus)

Role Accountabilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

- Architect, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines within Databricks.
Lead ingestion of operational system data (HubSpot and others) using Python and API integrations.
- Establish and evolve Covered’s data governance framework.
- Define and enforce data quality standards and monitoring practices.
- Build curated, certified datasets for use within Sigma and other BI tools.
- Guide teams toward consistent metric definitions and trusted reporting layers.
- Champion automated testing and observability within the data platform.
- Mentor engineers and analysts on best practices in data modeling and engineering.
- Partner with all of PEG to ensure data solutions are maintainable and extensible.
- Contribute to prioritizing and progressively elaborating on data platform initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional discussions around data architecture and governance strategy.
- Stay current on evolving tools, AI-assisted development practices, and modern data architecture patterns.
- Participate in recruiting and interviewing.
