About the role
As a senior Frontend Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and scaling Quarter20’s core product, working closely with our existing engineers and product team to evolve our single-page application, improve our frontend architecture, and deliver a world-class experience for our customers.
This is an opportunity to have significant ownership and impact, while also building on an existing technical foundation.
About Quarter20
Quarter20 is a next-generation platform that automates technical hardware documentation and collaboration for hardware development. We help engineers and their manufacturing teams automatically create build instructions and documentation, accelerating the timeline from design to manufacturing.
Quarter20 was founded by
Mai Bui
and
Addy First
, a hardware engineer and software go-to-market specialist hailing from teams at SpaceX, Tesla, and Microsoft. We are venture-backed by top investors and technologists. Our customers range from leading medical devices incumbents to agricultural robotics startups. We are a fast-growing startup and looking for awesome people to grow our product, vision, and culture.
What we do
Let’s be real - no one likes making documentation; it’s annoying and time consuming. But the process is 10x worse for hardware. Building hardware is complex, and unlike software, collaborating on hardware requires visual representation of the product, like 3D models and 2D drawings. Imagine if you were building a rocket and the best software tools that you had were Snipping Tool and generic solutions like Google Slides. Unfortunately, this is the reality for those not only in aerospace, but also in automotive, consumer electronics, and robotics - any company building hardware! Quarter20 is redefining the workflow for hardware engineering, starting with build documentation. We are creating the first-ever platform that, using 3D CAD as an input, can automatically generate the documentation that you need for hardware development, from product requirement docs, to test plans, to Bill of Materials, to build instructions, and more.
What you’ll do
- Build rich, high-performance, data-driven experiences that power Quarter20’s core single-page application
- Create a new class of web editor (like Notion or Figma) that transforms CAD data into automated manufacturing documentation
- Explore and apply new algorithms, tools, and libraries to push the limits of real-time renderings of complex 3D models
- Partner closely with backend engineers to design and evolve APIs and data models that support real-time, interactive experiences
- Work hand-in-hand with product, design, and customers to rapidly iterate on features used daily by hardware teams
- Continuously improve frontend architecture, performance, and tooling as the product scales
- Set a high bar for frontend quality, reliability, and user experience across the product
This may be a good fit if you have
- 5+ years of experience as a frontend software engineer
*Note: Degree in computer science not required!*
- Comfort working with autonomy, making smart technical tradeoffs, and shipping iteratively
- Experience with modern frontend JavaScript frameworks like React
- Excellent communication skills, with an ability to explain ideas clearly, give and receive feedback, and foster a good rapport with teammates
- Experience designing and implementing APIs
- Proficiency with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Proficiency with modern testing frameworks like Jest or Playwright
- A passion for shipping well-tested and maintainable code
Bonus points
- Background with mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and/or CAD
- Enjoy learning in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Sentry
- You love to document your work
