Role summary

We are seeking an IT Support Associate for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN. This role focuses on ensuring IT system effectiveness and availability, directly supporting end-user productivity. You will resolve complex hardware and software issues with minimal direction, manage and enhance documentation, and champion proactive support to prevent disruptions. The role involves analyzing incident trends to optimize support strategies and promoting continuous learning to elevate team capabilities. You will also apply Six Sigma principles to improve quality and efficiency. Responsibilities include balancing stakeholder needs, applying business insight, innovative thinking, accountability, managing complexity, process optimization, and technical agility. The position requires extensive hands-on experience with enterprise network infrastructure (Cisco/HPE), Windows-based systems, and advanced technical support for critical systems and devices, including Zebra and IoT-enabled devices. Foundational understanding of network infrastructure concepts and standard IT tools is essential.

We are looking for a talented
IT Support Associate
to join our team specializing in Systems/Information Technology for our Cummins Inc. facility in Fridley, MN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Ensure Operational Excellence : Independently maintain the effectiveness and availability of IT systems, directly supporting end-user productivity and business continuity.
  • Lead by Example : Coach and develop less experienced IT Support Associates, to foster a culture of growth, knowledge-sharing, and technical excellence.
  • Resolve Complex Issues : Ability to diagnose and solve hardware and software problems with minimal direction to help reduce downtime and improve user satisfaction.
  • Drive Process Improvement : Manage and enhance documentation and standards, ensuring consistency and clarity in IT support processes.
  • Champion Proactive Support : Identify potential issues before they escalate and propose solutions that will help prevent disruptions and improve system reliability.
  • Leverage Data for Insights : Analyze incident trends and take action to optimize support strategies and improve service delivery.
  • Promote Continuous Learning : Train others and identify skill gaps to elevate team capabilities and ensure readiness for evolving technologies.
  • Advance Quality and Efficiency : Apply Six Sigma principles and identify service improvement opportunities, to help reduce costs and streamline operations.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience (to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations) required.
  • Associate degree, relevant industry training, certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Significant work experience and in-depth knowledge obtained through specialized training and relevant experience.

Core Responsibilities / Activities

  • Provide advanced technical support for critical systems and devices by independently troubleshooting and resolving complex issues across end-user systems and specialized equipment, including Zebra, Windows, and IoT-enabled networked devices.
  • Deliver advanced network support by diagnosing and resolving connectivity issues affecting end-user devices and operational equipment, leveraging strong networking fundamentals and close collaboration with network and infrastructure teams.
  • Provide consistent, hands-on, on-site IT support for business-critical operations in a time-sensitive environment, while also supporting nearby locations as needed to ensure system stability and continuity.

Skills / Education / Experience

  • Extensive hands-on experience designing, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise network infrastructure, including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, and overall network connectivity in a Cisco/HPE environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Windows-based systems in an enterprise environment; familiarity with Linux environments is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and resolve complex technical issues with minimal supervision.

Technical Skills

  • Experience supporting Windows operating systems (XP through 11) and Windows Server environments (2008 through 2019).
  • Familiarity with antivirus platforms, Active Directory, and foundational Windows security configurations.
  • Foundational understanding of network infrastructure concepts, including TCP/IP, switching, and common network devices.
  • Strong technical aptitude with standard IT tools and software, including Microsoft Office, Telnet/Putty clients, Remote Desktop, and enterprise collaboration platforms such as Teams and SharePoint.
