Role summary
Dell Technologies is seeking a Systems Engineer for their Platform Engineering Team in Hopkinton, MA. This role involves supporting hardware architecture, managing design issues for new and existing products, and performing qualifications on hardware components, firmware, and OS. The engineer will also conduct lab operations for performance testing and hardware qualification, and physically install hardware in labs. Essential requirements include engineering concepts, hardware design expertise, analytical skills, communication skills, and scripting experience (Python preferred). Desirable requirements include knowledge of Intel architecture, storage devices, C/C++/Java/Python, and networking. A bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience or an advanced degree without experience is preferred.

What you’ll achieve
We build enterprise-grade, massively scalable cluster-based storage systems running across Linux and BSD. Our portfolio includes a multi-petabyte S3 object store and a scale-out NAS platform. We’re a modern, scrum-based engineering org that ships with high velocity and quality, using the best tools, hardware, and practices.
As a Systems Engineer, you will contribute to building a best-in-class platform stack, the foundation upon which these products are built.
You will:
- Support the hardware architecture team to deliver a complex storage appliance with the highest quality and best in class features
- Work cross-functionally to track, manage and close design issues for both new product introductions (NPI) and in-market (IM) activities
- Perform qualifications on hardware components (Drives, DIMMs, cables, switches, etc.), BIOS, firmware, drivers and OS
- Perform lab operations to support performance testing, customer failure replication, network configuration and hardware component qualification
- Physically install and set up hardware in Massachusetts labs (Hopkinton and Franklin)

Essential Requirements
- Solid knowledge and application of engineering concepts and problem-solving skills
- Hardware design expertise
- Ability to analyze information and draw accurate conclusions
- Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Scripting experience (Python preferred)
Desirable Requirements
- Knowledge of Intel based architecture
- Knowledge of hard drive, SSD, DIMM and/or other storage devices
- Proficiency in hardware, software and/or operating systems environments
- Networking experience
- Proficiency in at least one of C/C++, Java, or Python; willingness to learn across the stack.
- 2+ years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent experience
Compensation
Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary range for this position: $130,000 to $155,000
